Sign Permits, Electrical Permits & Variance Applications

Some of the necessary paperwork that we are often required to do to ensure your sign is compliant with local laws. We can provide advice and expertise for all these things you need to get done as we’ve been through this a few thousand times.

  • Electrical permits are required for all electrical sign installations in British Columbia. The connection of electrical power to a sign has several conditions that need to be met to ensure it is legal. We have several red seal electricians on staff and Grant Illuminated Signs is a registered electrical contractor with the ability to pull electrical permits for your work.

  • Most municipalities (towns, cities and regional districts) require sign permits for most signs that you want to be made. There are exclusions including temporary signs, flags, sign face replacements, but these vary based on the municipality.

We offer the service of providing sign permits and include the cost of the labour to prepare the sign permit and the cost of the permit itself. Getting us to sort out your permit requirements can be a load off your shoulders.

  • Sometimes you will need to apply for a variance to a bylaw in order to get the sign you really want. We help with this process by providing the documentation, the application and the rationale for the application.

This is a process that does not always guarantee the approval of the variance and the process is costed as a fee plus costs.

If you want a 30’ tall sign and the bylaw allows the sign to only be 11’ tall or less, then this is the process you have to go through.
