We build channel letters for businesses for all brands, and often, the channel letters are manufactured and shipped or installed as individual letters. This usually happens if the wall is in great shape, the surface is smooth and finished and set up to allow for individual letters to be mounted to it. Individual letters require the wiring to be done through wall for each letter, with 12v or 24v power going through the wall surface to connect to a power supply on the inside.

Backer panels are usually used in places where the wall surface is not perfect, or where it would be impossible to run low voltage wiring to the inside of the building.

Backer panels provide a finished smooth surface for the channel letters to mount to and to contrast against. The backer panels are often designed to improve readability and make the sign look more finished.

We can build and ship channel letters on backer panels so that the installer can simply mount the sign to the wall and connect to an external 120v power connection as well.

First off, a raceway is a painted sheet metal or aluminum trough that channel letters are often mounted to.

A backer panel is simply a larger “raceway” that is finished to a higher level than a raceway and that is designed to more visible and provide a proper background for the letters to be visible on.

This allows all of the low volt wiring to be contained inside the box, requiring only one electrical connection to the building.
